Mortgage Quest Ltd is a multi-award-winning, independent, directly authorised mortgage broker based in London. Family-owned and run since 2004, it is the parent of the specialist brands Freelancer Financials, C & F Mortgages, Self Employed Mortgages and contractormortgages.com.
Mortgage Quest Ltd was founded by industry leader John Yerou, when he realised that lenders did not adequately serve the growing flexible labour force of contractors, freelancers, Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) workers and the self-employed. John was one of the pioneers of contractor mortgages, building a panel of lenders that looked at the contractor's day rate when assessing income and affordability, rather than their post-tax accounts.
He went on to develop a number of niche brands, winning numerous awards on the way, such as the Mortgage Intelligence Network award for Best Directly Authorised Mortgage Broker, for 10 consecutive years. All the specialist brands are owned and operated by Mortgage Quest Ltd and continue to thrive.
In recent years there have been many the changes to the flexible workforce brought on, for example, by the introduction of "off-payroll" tax regime IR35 and the concept of working under an umbrella company as an alternative to contractors being directors of Personal Service Companies (PSC's). Consequently, some recent entrants to contracting may feel that high street lenders will understand their predicament and income... but they are likely to be disappointed.
